Local Golf Clubmaker Returns From Renowned Training School In Austin, Texas

June 27, 2003

AUSTIN, TX – Jim Holley of Greenwood, SC, recently completed an intense, technical seminar at the Golfsmith Clubmakers Training Program in Austin, Texas.  Golfsmith, the leading golf club component supplier and golf Clubmaking Company, started its training program in 1970 as the first of its type in the world.  The school offers instruction and hands-on training in all aspects of golf club assembly and repair.  The curriculum – developed and presented by Golfsmith technical staff, designers, engineers and repair craftsmen- covers custom golf clubfitting , assembly techniques, wood and metal wood refinishing, troubleshooting and general golf club repair techniques.  Participants receive a thorough understanding of products, processes and techniques, and invaluable shop experience working alongside the production and repair staff at Golfsmith.

Holley and a group of other participants also worked with the various special tools and equipment necessary to operate a full-service commercial golf clubmaking and repair facility.  Additionally, they participated in roundtable discussions on the theory of clubfitting as it pertains to the various golf club elements – such as shaft material, shaft flex, and club weight – and the individual golfer’s swing characteristics.

Golfsmith, the world’s largest supplier of golf club components, repair supplies, tools and equipment, has instructed thousands of clubmakers since the inception of the program over 30 years ago.
